2nd Annual World Taekwondo Culture Expo
I returned last month from the 2nd Annual World Taekwondo Culture Expo held in South Korea between the cities of Jeon Ju and Mu Ju. There were unlimited experiences that our hosts shared with the approximately 2000 people from around the globe that traveled for this event. We visited Buddhist Temples and traditional Korean villages where we could appreciate the unique architecture. Some merchants shared not only their wares but how they make their diverse traditional Korean object d'art. One example was the Jidam paper craft studio. In this particular region of Korea, there is a special tree that is used by the natives to make paper. Now making paper from trees is not exceptional, it's been going on for thousands of years. This paper, however, was unique. Where traditionally, paper made from trees might last 100 years, this Hanji paper will last for 1000 years. It can be so durable that clothing, wallets and bags are made from it. I even viewed some beautiful light fixtures that I wish I could have put in my suitcase. In the beginning, I traveled to South Korea to study more in depth the martial art of taekwondo. But I ended up studying the Korean people and their traditions which is an experience I will cherish for years to come.
